TabTape Privacy Policy

Effective July 24, 2026

TabTape is a Chrome extension that records audio from a browser tab after an explicit user action and lets the user save or discard the recording locally.

Summary

TabTape does not send captured audio, page titles, preferences, or usage data to the developer or any third party. It has no accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking, cloud storage, or remote code.

Data handled by the extension

TabTape handles audio playing in the active browser tab after the user presses Record, the active tab's page title for a proposed filename, the floating control's last position, and the version of the first-use disclosure acknowledged by the user.

Tab audio is website content. Depending on what the user deliberately records, it may also contain personal communications such as meetings, calls, or voice messages.

How audio is used and retained

Audio is accessed only to provide the recording feature. Audio chunks and the completed recording are held temporarily in volatile extension memory. After recording stops, the user chooses Save audio or Discard.

Temporary audio is also lost when the extension is reloaded, its recording context ends, or the browser session terminates. Recordings are not persisted in Chrome extension storage or IndexedDB.

Data collection and sharing

The developer does not collect, receive, sell, share, transmit, or analyze captured audio, page titles, preferences, or usage information. The extension makes no network requests.

Local preferences

Chrome extension storage is used only for the control's last position and the version of the privacy disclosure acknowledged by the user. Removing the extension or clearing its extension data removes these values.

Permissions

TabTape does not request blanket host access, microphone access, cookies, browsing history, location, camera, or access to local files.

User choice and responsibility

Before first use, TabTape explains what is captured, how it is used, and that nothing is uploaded. Users should record only content they own or have permission to capture. TabTape does not bypass access controls, subscriptions, site restrictions, or digital rights management.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

TabTape's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only for the disclosed recording and local-save feature. It is not used for advertising, creditworthiness, unrelated purposes, or human review.

Changes to this policy

If TabTape's data practices change, this policy and the in-product disclosure will be updated before a version with those practices is released.
